Episode 10

10. From Lost to Found: Navigating Change with Trust and Courage

Have you ever found yourself in that strange in-between, no longer who you were, not yet who you’re becoming, and feeling lost? In this episode I share my own lifelong dance with “lostness” and how I’ve come to see it differently: not as failure, but as a powerful next transition.

Together, we’ll explore how to reframe these transitional seasons with trust and creativity, and how to notice the resilience, openness and resources you already carry with you.

If you’re in a season of change - whether in identity, career, creativity, or soul - this episode is for you.

Topics Covered

  • Why feeling “lost” is often an old identity, not your truth
  • How the metaphor of rooms and corridors for life’s transitions can change the way you see these in-between periods
  • How to resource yourself with resilience, openness, and creativity while transitioning, and
  • Reframing uncertainty as a sacred invitation into becoming.

I'm Andrea Lee Matthies, writer, photographer,

2

:

and Clairvoyant Medium, and this

is the Bold, Brave Woman Project.

3

:

This podcast is a living, breathing,

unfolding of what it really

4

:

means to step into our becoming.

5

:

Born from the ashes of a failed YouTube

channel, this weekly podcast brings you

6

:

real unfiltered moments of failure, of

bravery, and of deep intuitive knowing,

7

:

so that you too can step into who you are

becoming with even more trust and bravery.

8

:

Let's dive in.

9

:

Welcome back to another episode

of the Bold, Brave Woman Project.

10

:

Today I wanna talk about that feeling

of being lost because this has come up

11

:

quite a number of times for me over my

lifetime, particularly when I'm trying

12

:

to do stuff that's outside of the box

or that's really bold or really brave,

13

:

You know, I spent a lot of my life in

a corporate type world chasing a dream,

14

:

chasing a corporate ladder, and titles

and remuneration that I thought was

15

:

gonna give me value and give me status.

16

:

I'd always had a, a background of

needing to fall back on something that

17

:

was true and real tangible success of

academic success, of corporate success.

18

:

So I went into lots of different roles

in marketing and in sales and other

19

:

roles that really allowed me to solidify

myself and solidify an identity.

20

:

Even though, though at the time,

for me it was a false identity, but

21

:

really solidify this identity of I can

achieve, I can do, I am recognized,

22

:

I climbed all the way up to become a Chief

Strategy Officer that was consulting out

23

:

to lots of different organizations here

in Australia and, that sense of corporate

24

:

climbing really gave me this need that

fulfilled this need of having something

25

:

tangible, something socially acceptable

to feel like I had value in the world.

26

:

But it would feel very empty and a

very transient, and then I'd fall

27

:

back into this feeling of lost.

28

:

This feeling of, I don't know where I am.

29

:

I don't know what my purpose in life is.

30

:

I dunno what it is that I'm here

to give back and to give forward

31

:

into the world What I'm doing feels

very empty, feels very financially

32

:

focused, very revenue metric focused

that had no soul value to it.

33

:

And so I'd fall into these

periods of, I'm lost.

34

:

I don't know what I'm doing.

35

:

I don't know where I'm meant to be.

36

:

And then I'd kind of wade through that for

a little while and find another shiny kind

37

:

of either metric or something that felt

like success, then I'd fixate on that.

38

:

And then I'd use that to give

me purpose and move through into

39

:

another chapter of my life where

I was striving for something.

40

:

But then again, inevitably I'd get to a

point where it wasn't fulfilling me in

41

:

the way that I needed it to fulfill me And

that feeling of being lost would return.

42

:

And what I've come to realize over the

course of my lifetime is that the more

43

:

that we want to push into having these

external validations of self or these

44

:

external attachments to needing something

to show us or give us that feeling of

45

:

value, the more transient it is and the

more likely we are to land back into

46

:

these patches of feeling lost again.

47

:

And I was recently sitting down and just

journaling and just exploring this concept

48

:

of lost and what it really means to me.

49

:

And what I've discovered is

for me, it feels like we are

50

:

moving between rooms, right?

51

:

You know, we're in a room that is

our life that has certain criteria

52

:

or certain things that are going

on, and we've defined ourselves by

53

:

certain characteristics of this room

or this version of life that we're in.

54

:

And then we end up in these moments

of realizing this room or this version

55

:

of my life, or this version of my

identity, it doesn't serve me anymore.

56

:

It's not fulfilling me.

57

:

There's something that I've either added

to this room or I've built this space

58

:

around me to mean or to be, but it is not

holding the same value that it once was.

59

:

And you end up in this, in this room

That starts to feel too small or too

60

:

big, or not comfortable anymore to be in.

61

:

And then we move into what I'm calling

corridors, you know, we open a door out

62

:

of that room or out of that life, right,

of that identity and we step into a

63

:

corridor and then we're in this space of,

well, now I don't know what I'm doing.

64

:

It is very transient.

65

:

And when we are carrying a whole bunch of

old conditioning around what used to feel

66

:

safe, what used to feel like home like

me, that we've just closed the door on.

67

:

It can feel really unsettling,

particularly if the door to the next

68

:

room or the next identity or the

next thing that we are meant to do

69

:

hasn't opened yet, or it hasn't even

materialized in front of us yet.

70

:

We're just walking down

this long corridor.

71

:

That is a big question mark.

72

:

This space of I know I need to work out

what it is that I'm meant to be doing.

73

:

But I haven't quite defined it yet.

74

:

I haven't quite set what those new

things are for me to step into.

75

:

And so I'm in a liminal space of

Where on earth is this leading to?

76

:

Where is here?

77

:

Who am I?

78

:

What, what is it that

I'm meant to be doing?

79

:

I know that I'm meant to be stepping

into this next version of me, this

80

:

next sourcing of bravery of courage.

81

:

the next chapter of my life,

but I can't see it yet.

82

:

And one of the things that actually came

to light through working with a mentor,

83

:

and I was talking to her about this

feeling of like, I just, I keep feeling

84

:

lost, like I'm always feeling lost.

85

:

And she pointed out to me through this

beautiful work that we were doing together

86

:

I had created feeling lost as an identity.

87

:

It's almost like I've defined every

single corridor or every single

88

:

transitional period that I move

through as being the lost period.

89

:

I'd become quite comfortable

in becoming lost.

90

:

In being lost.

91

:

It was almost like, oh, I'm lost again.

92

:

Gonna put that hat back on.

93

:

It's like an outfit that I

have, and I'm like, okay, right.

94

:

I'm here.

95

:

I'm lost again.

96

:

I'm gonna slip back into that really

comfortable outfit, that really

97

:

comfortable identity, and I'm gonna

wallow in that for a little bit

98

:

until I figure out the next move.

99

:

Now here's the thing.

100

:

We don't have to slip into that

old identity of being lost.

101

:

Because when I sat down and I had a

look at my inventory as a human, as a

102

:

woman, in this moment, in this hallway,

this corridor, this transitional period,

103

:

I had with me a whole bunch of stuff.

104

:

I had with me an arsenal of things.

105

:

I wasn't really and completely lost.

106

:

I was just in a transition.

107

:

But with me, I have resilience.

108

:

You know, I have this surplus

of resilience, of bravery that

109

:

resides within me at all times.

110

:

That I can pull on, that I can pop on

as a coat of armor as an outfit, or

111

:

simply just hang on to, in terms of an

in energy of, yeah, I can get through any

112

:

corridor, I can get through any period.

113

:

The other thing that I had is my

ability to be open to new ideas and

114

:

new beliefs and new things, you know?

115

:

So while I'm in this transitional period

of walking through this corridor, it's

116

:

like, yeah, I have openness on my side.

117

:

It is a part of me that never leaves so

that I can allow any new idea, any new

118

:

possibility in, and that is expansive.

119

:

That is not contractive.

120

:

Like the feeling of lost

can often feel like.

121

:

Being open is expansive.

122

:

It is growth.

123

:

It is actually having a, energy field

around you that is receptive, that

124

:

is constantly searching and receiving

and able to make something of a

125

:

simple idea, a simple energy that

pops into my proximity, that I can

126

:

grab hold of and make something with.

127

:

Someone who is truly

lost, doesn't have that.

128

:

Someone who's truly lost is inward

focused and contractive, but I know I

129

:

have this expansive energy around me.

130

:

I also realize that there's a perspective

that I can take in terms of being

131

:

locked into a corporate nine to five,

Monday to Friday, and being on this

132

:

journey of podcasting, of coaching,

of being a mentor, of being expansive,

133

:

of being open to creating something

new rather than defining it as a

134

:

contractive period where I'm no longer

attached to something secure in terms

135

:

of a financial status or a job title.

136

:

It's like, in this period I'm

professionally single and available.

137

:

You know, I'm in my professionally

open and expansive mode.

138

:

I am professionally creative.

139

:

I am professionally open to

tapping into what is here for me

140

:

as a bold and brave woman, and

turning that into something else.

141

:

Letting go of the need of having

to have an identity, a professional

142

:

identity, and a title to give me value.

143

:

Because when you are a woman who is in her

creative power and you're a coach, you're

144

:

a mentor, you're an entrepreneur, all

these different labels and titles, they

145

:

are just that energetic labels and titles.

146

:

And we can change and define that

however and whenever we want to.

147

:

And so looking at this is like I have

this arsenal of this energy, of this

148

:

availability, of this professionally,

single, however you wanna define it.

149

:

It is actually power.

150

:

And when we step into that power,

of course, power builds and

151

:

attracts other opportunity to us.

152

:

We become the frequency

match of these things.

153

:

And so as I'm walking through this

hallway into this next room, this

154

:

next chapter of my life, it's like,

no, I'm not contracted and lost.

155

:

I'm actually expansive and

I'm redefining what I have.

156

:

You know, I can look at the money

that is coming in, or the money that

157

:

is in my savings account, the money

that is funding all of this beautiful

158

:

creative work in this period of my life.

159

:

As having this ability to fund

this transition and trusting and

160

:

knowing that whatever comes next,

will also be adequately funded.

161

:

Because I trust and believe in myself

enough and know that I have all of

162

:

this stuff available to me and within

me, I'm certainly not lost anymore.

163

:

And so just really looking at these

periods with a certain different

164

:

framing, a more bold, brave, out there

framing, a more proactive framing.

165

:

It really helps us move through

these different periods and these

166

:

different identities and parts of

our lives that are needed and have

167

:

to happen for us to continue down the

journey that we are here to travel.

168

:

But rather than it becoming an old

part of my life that I am mourning for.

169

:

We can start to reframe in our mind.

170

:

It's like, no, that was a room that

I was in, or that was a chapter that

171

:

I was in that I outgrew and I left

purposefully with a reason because I

172

:

know there's something more that I'm

meant to be stepping into something

173

:

different, something expansive.

174

:

That next iteration of who I am, and right

now I'm in the corridor and that can feel.

175

:

confining, it can feel restrictive,

but actually it is this beautiful

176

:

transition period and there is a huge,

infinite number of doors that are going

177

:

to be opening up either on either side

of me or at the end of this hallway

178

:

to step into this next chapter of me.

179

:

I'm going to resource myself with

everything that I have right now.

180

:

The reframing, the energy, my connection

to my source, my spirituality, my

181

:

soul, whatever it is that you are

connected to that is greater than

182

:

you and however you define it.

183

:

If you call it God, if you call

it source, if it's the universe,

184

:

You are so well resourced in this

transitional period in your life that

185

:

you can start to reframe this as, This is

the moment where I allow myself to just

186

:

sit with the possibility of what's next.

187

:

To allow myself to move down this

corridor with trust and with the

188

:

excitement building of like, oh my

goodness, what is the room that is next?

189

:

What is the infinite potential that

exists that I can start to create

190

:

through my mindset, through my

dreaming, through my daydreaming?

191

:

Through sitting in this moment of

exploration of what's actually here,

192

:

what am I resourced with, what am I

thinking, what am I feeling, getting a

193

:

journal out, writing it down, you know,

if I could step into any room at the

194

:

end of this corridor, what would it be?

195

:

If I didn't have to think about finances

and pressure and security, what would

196

:

I build for myself in this room?

197

:

How would I architect it?

198

:

How would I furnish it?

199

:

What would it look like?

200

:

What would the reason for this be?

201

:

And we can start to just allow ourselves

to be in our minds, in our dreaming,

202

:

in our exploration, to really tap

into what is it that I actually want.

203

:

Because, part of the reason we often

feel lost is because we haven't

204

:

really tapped into our full desire

of what it is that we actually want.

205

:

What it is that we want for our lives,

for our feeling of worth and success.

206

:

What does that look like?

207

:

How do we resource that

from within ourselves?

208

:

And just sitting with

these moments, these.

209

:

These beautiful moments of possibility

to just explore and sometimes the

210

:

question can be hard to answer.

211

:

There's been so many times where I've

sat with my journal and I've written the

212

:

question out or written the statement

of if I didn't have to worry about

213

:

sourcing income, what is it that I

would do right now in this moment?

214

:

Sometimes we can be blocked around that.

215

:

I've sat with pen in hand lingering

over my journal and being like,

216

:

what is it that I would do?

217

:

And part of the old conditioning would

be like, well, I'd create this online

218

:

course, or I'd do this coaching practice.

219

:

It's like, no, scratch that.

220

:

If I didn't have to sell, if I didn't

have to show up and feel like I was doing

221

:

something inside the mainstream constructs

of what it is to be a coach or what it

222

:

is to be a podcaster, if I can wipe the

slate clean, what is it that I would do?

223

:

And in those moments where you feel

blocked and you can't answer that

224

:

question, there's something even

more magical happening there because

225

:

you can actually ask yourself the

question of why are you blocked?

226

:

What are you really afraid of?

227

:

Why are you afraid of

answering this question?

228

:

And actually digging into some layers

that sit underneath that around,

229

:

well, you know, if I answer that

question, I have to take action.

230

:

And if I have to take

action, I could fail.

231

:

And there's a fear of failure here.

232

:

Or if I define what I really want and it

requires me to move out of the comfort of

233

:

this safety that I have right now in my

body, and it feels scary and I step into

234

:

the unknown, it's revealing to us that

there's a fear of unknown sitting there.

235

:

And so these corridor moments are so

beautiful for us to be able to just

236

:

sit with ourselves with pen and paper

or meditation or whatever format it

237

:

is that really resonates with us.

238

:

To explore what is it that I really wanna

do, and if I can excavate out some of this

239

:

old fear of having to take action and fear

of failure, or having to step into the

240

:

unknown because I can't define what the

door is that I'm meant to walk through.

241

:

I don't know which doorknob to put my

hand on to turn the door to step into.

242

:

And.

243

:

Before I'm even willing to do that,

I need to know what's on the other

244

:

side because I don't feel safe.

245

:

It gives us the opportunity to really

excavate what is sitting there, to clear

246

:

all of that so that we can actually

tap into and, and find what it is

247

:

that we really want to do and what we

really passionate about and what we

248

:

really want to make our lives about.

249

:

I think for me, when I've dug into this

and started to clear some of that fear

250

:

of failure, that fear of not getting it

right or the fear of the uncertainty, some

251

:

really simple things have started to drop

into what I am really passionate about.

252

:

And one of the things is this

feeling of flying, this feeling

253

:

of freedom, of creative flow.

254

:

You know, I have an electric skateboard,

I have a one wheel, and so I ride that

255

:

quite a lot now the same reason why

I had a number of motorbikes over the

256

:

years to get that feeling of flying.

257

:

I started my helicopter pilot's license

again to get this feeling of flying.

258

:

And so what is really being excavated

here is not necessarily like, okay, you're

259

:

gonna be professional, helicopter pilot.

260

:

What I'm starting to excavate out are some

of those things that are really important

261

:

and I'm passionate about, so that I can

clear out what is sitting on the top of

262

:

it to get deeper into these feelings, to

get deeper into my passion and my pleasure

263

:

and my desire so that when I'm ready to

open the door into the next room, I can

264

:

bring through some of these threads and

create some of the experiences and some of

265

:

the things in how I show up in the world,

the things I talk about on the podcast,

266

:

the experiences that I create that really

are, able to tap into this pleasure and

267

:

this passion and the things that I love

to do so that the next version of the life

268

:

that I step into the next version of the

identity or the room and the space that I

269

:

transition into has more of these threads

of passion and pleasure and desire in them

270

:

So that I can know that no matter

what it is that I'm doing, I'm really

271

:

being true to myself and tapping

into who I am So if you're ever in

272

:

a moment where you're feeling lost,

just know you're not lost at all.

273

:

It's just a transitional moment where

you've stepped out of a room that you

274

:

were in, that you found safety in, that

perhaps was something familiar and old,

275

:

but you outgrew it and you're currently in

a corridor where you can start to really

276

:

tap into what is it that I wanna do next?

277

:

Where am I currently resourced?

278

:

What skills, what things

do I have with me?

279

:

Which ones are really important to me

that I wanna carry into and use as a

280

:

basis to create in this next room, this

next chapter that I'm gonna step into?

281

:

And start to source trust,

knowing that the next room

282

:

doesn't need to be controlled.

283

:

It doesn't need to be perfect.

284

:

And if it's not perfect, it's a failure.

285

:

allowing yourself to drop

all of that pressure.

286

:

To just come back to yourself to

understand what it is that you really

287

:

desire, even if it's just a word like I

have at the moment around freedom flow.

288

:

You know, just coming back to what it

is that gives you pleasure so that in

289

:

this moment you can resource yourself

enough to let go of this identity and

290

:

this definition of being lost knowing

that there will always be another

291

:

transitional point down the line, that

nothing that you create in that next

292

:

room is permanent and set in stone is

just simply that next chapter of your

293

:

expression, of your bravery, of the

power that you are here to really start

294

:

making into something creative, artistic,

academic, corporate, whatever vibe it is

295

:

that makes sense for you, Ready for that

next chapter, And please, please, please

296

:

make sure you reach out to me anytime.

297

:

I just wanna celebrate you and these

brave moves and these realizations

298

:

that you are having and help you

remember just how incredible you are.

299

:

I'll see you in the next episode.

300

:

You're amazing, I love you.

301

:

and have a beautiful day.

302

:

As always, thank you for being here.

303

:

Andrea Lee Matthies

Andrea Lee Matthies is an artist, photographer, and clairvoyant medium who creates portals for people to see and experience themselves more fully. Through her work, she blends creativity with clairvoyant insight, offering a unique perspective on what it means to thrive as a soul having a human experience.

As host of House of Andrea, Andrea brings together soulful conversations, channelling and subtle activations that invite listeners to awaken their intuition, dissolve self-imposed boundaries and step into the full spectrum of who they are.

Her approach is contemporary, vibrant, and deeply human - honouring both the beauty of the physical world and the unseen wisdom of spirit. Andrea’s mission is to help others feel seen, inspired and activated, so they can embody their own brilliance and frequency in everyday life.
